Disposal Services | Recycling Waste

Why the Need to Recycle?

Palm Springs currently disposes approximately 25,000 tons of waste per year. In 1989, AB-939 mandated that all communities divert 50% of their waste by 2000. Today the State average has reached their goal. Does that mean that we no longer recycle? No.

Continued education on recycling is necessary in order for our children to understand the importance of recycling. Most consumer goods packaged can be recycled. As markets develop more and more organic waste will be recycled such as food waste.

AUTOMATION RECYCLE PROGRAM

In order to make recycling easy, the City of Palm Springs approved PSDS to proceed with a single stream method of recycling. What that means is that residents no longer need to separate their recyclables at the curb. They simply place all their recyclables such as paper and food and beverage containers into one container. These larger size containers will also accommodate cardboard that is flattened.

Automation recycling will begin July 1, 2008. Look for educational information in your billing statement. You can also call our offices for information on what can be recycled.
